Guest of Honor Emeritus Cory Doctorow is joining us this year (as all former GoHs are welcome to do), and we could not be more excited!
Cory Doctorow is a futurist (The Rapture of the Nerds), YA author (Little Brother, Homeland), and founder of BoingBoing.net, “the web’s favorite zine devoted to the weird, wonderful and wicked things to be found in technology and culture.” He has regular columns in Popular Science, Wired, and Make Magazine.
Well-known for his advocacy for revising copyright laws and champion of the Creative Commons, his works often speak on DRM, file sharing, and post-scarcity economics, as well as the consequences of government intrusion on the public’s privacy.
He’s also known for coining Doctorow’s Law: “Anytime someone puts a lock on something you own, against your wishes, and doesn’t give you the key, they’re not doing it for your benefit.”
Since this year’s tech track is focusing on privacy and security, it is a great year for Cory to rejoin us! Expect to see him around on Friday Night and Saturday.
